A very fine German violin made by a member of the presigious Hopf family in Vogtland around the turn of the 19th Century. 
 
This is a beautiful violin made from the most intriguing piece of wood we have seen on a violin.  The flame is erratic and changes and dances depending on the angle at which you view it. 
 
This beautiful, complex wood coupled with the wide and characteristicly square bouts of this vioiln produces a fine sounding, dark and warm instrument full of bass and rich overtones.  A lovely thing both to look at and to play, in superb condition. If this was made down the road, in Italy you could add a zero onto the price.
